Liverpool name Legends team for Sydney match

The Liverpool FC Legends side will be full of talent when they travel to Sydney in January 2016.

Headlined by former skipper Steven Gerrard, the Reds Legends will play against a squad of Socceroos legends in a one-off match at ANZ Stadium on January 7.

The Liverpool squad will combine heroes of yesteryear including Ian Rush, John Aldridge and Bruce Grobbelaar with modern greats Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and Dietmar Hamann.

Gerrard remains the only member of the squad currently playing professional football, with the veteran plying his trade for LA Galaxy in the National Soccer League.

The Legends match will be the first time Gerrard has worn a Red shirt following his departure from Merseyside at the end of the 2014/15 season.

The full squad includes: Bruce Grobbelaar, John Aldridge, Phil Babb, Patrik Berger, Jamie Carragher, Robbie Fowler, Luis Garcia, Steven Gerrard, Stephane Henchoz, Vladimir Smicer, Ian Rush, Jason McAteer, Gary McAllister, Dietmar Hamann and John Arne Riise. They will be managed by Gerard Houllier.
